Beijing Particle Levels

What is CleanAirApartment.com?

CleanAirApartment.com, started in Beijing, China as the ultimate experiment in how to create the healthiest possible living environment. Our company, IQAir, was selected by the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) to provide USA athletes with advanced air cleaning in their residential and training areas in Beijing during the Olympic Games. It is the first time in history that ultra-high efficiency air purification is being used on a large scale for performance enhancement. While helping athletes to win medals is great, during our time in Beijing, we saw Clean Air Apartment as an opportunity to demonstrate that effective air purification can help families breathe clean, healthy air anywhere in the world - at least while at home.

We are using advanced ultra-high efficiency air cleaners to comprehensively remove airborne particulates like dust, mold, allergens, diesel soot, even bacteria and viruses. Many people have heard of air purifiers, but when they used one they were often pretty disappointed to find out that it really doesn’t do much to clean their air. CleanAirApartment.com is just the opposite. We are taking normal homes and show how they can be transformed into ultra healthy indoor environments. The air cleaning systems we are using are tested and certified to filter down to 0.003 microns. This is smaller than the smallest virus and about 100 times smaller than the large particles that are filtered by typical consumer air purifiers that you see sold in department stores.

Why are we doing this?

Every day, just in the USA, 30,000 people miss work or school because of complications of their asthma. 4,000 people in the USA die each year from their asthma. It is estimated that more than half of all homes worldwide have at least one person with allergies. On top of this there are many, many more people with respiratory conditions and other environmental sensitivities that affect their health. Air pollution has a major impact on all of these health conditions. Since the average person spends 90% of their time indoors, clean indoor air is particularly important to our health. Unfortunately, most of the air purifiers sold today do very little to improve indoor air. Because consumers cannot tell whether an air purifier actually works or not (the air goes into the machine looks the same as the air coming out), manufacturers do not really have an incentive to make good air purifiers that really clean the air in our homes. By demonstrating what is actually possible with ultra-high efficiency air purification, we hope to encourage more people look into the science of air purification.
